Charilla is only 10 mins, 6 km to the north east of Alcala La Real. It has a population of about 600 inhabitants who live at an altitude of 923 m.
Charilla is based at the foot of the hill of the watch tower which is one of three in the area; the other two being in Castillo de Locubin and Santa Ana.

The structure of Charilla is mainly level with wide streets displaying typically Spanish white houses. The village has a school, bar, church and social club.
In the museum of Jaen is the treasure, objects of gold and silver, found in Charilla by students in 1977. The main celebration is on the 7 October in honour of the Virgin of Rosario.
